FAQs
The Additive Manufacturing Institute of Science and Technology (AMIST) Print Farm provides access to 3D printing services for students, faculty, and staff at the University of Louisville. The facility supports part production via Fused Filament Fabrication (FFF) and Vat Photopolymerization (SLA) technologies.
Submitting a Print
To request a print:
- Complete the submission form: JotForm Submission Link
- Upload your
.stlfile and name it clearly for easy identification - After review, you will receive an email with your build time estimate and next steps
Printing Process
- Users do not operate the printers themselves; all printing is handled by AMIST staff
- Once printed, parts will be placed in a labeled bin
- You will be notified via email when your part is ready for pickup, along with the bin number
- Users are responsible for removing support structures and completing any post-processing unless specifically requested otherwise
Design Considerations
Understanding basic design principles is strongly encouraged:
- Review the FFF Design Guidelines from Hydra Research
- For SLA, refer to: 3D Hubs SLA Guide
- Adhering to these guidelines improves print success and accuracy
Looking Ahead
The Print Farm is actively expanding material options and printing processes. Users are welcome to reach out with questions or suggestions for future capabilities.
