A Message from Lissa McCracken, KPPC’s Executive Director

On behalf of the KPPC Board of Director’s, I am very pleased to present the Center’s FY2025 annual report, as it demonstrates the value, in environmental stewardship and economic success, that KPPC is bringing to manufacturers throughout Kentucky.  We at KPPC are very grateful for the State’s continued support, as are the Kentucky manufacturers who receive our assistance. 

This report outlines the results of Kentucky’s investment in KPPC and the value that was returned in the Commonwealth. KPPC is dedicated to offering its expertise and services to Kentucky business and industry to meet their needs and support their success in today’s business environment.

Over the past two years, KPPC has enhanced it’s very capable and cohesive technical staff.  I appreciate all their efforts and the efforts of our Speed School student engineers.  They continue to coordinate assessments in support of the University of Louisville Industrial Training and Assessment Center (ULITAC), sponsored by the U.S. Department of Energy (DOE), and have developed a strategic focus with automotive and distillery manufacturers through work being sponsored by the U.S. Environmental Protection Agency (EPA).  The automotive and distillery industries are critical to Kentucky’s economic success, and throughout the fiscal year, 20 of our 26 client companies serve these industries. KPPC developed a Sustainable Manufacturing Guide and Toolkit, including a new tool to assist manufacturers with sustainable value stream mapping (Sus-VSM) of their production operations.  During the reporting period, KPPC developed Sus-VSMs for eight (8) manufacturing companies, bringing the total number of manufacturers served in this way to eighteen (18).

We appreciate the financial support of all our sponsors, which enables us to fulfill our mission in Kentucky. Our partnering organizations are also critical to our success as they provide complimentary value. These include organizations at the local, state and national level that advance and promote sustainable growth for the Commonwealth. Key partners here in Kentucky include the Conn Center for Renewable Energy Research in the J.B. Speed School of Engineering at the University of Louisville, the Kentucky Association of Manufacturers, the regional Area Development Districts throughout the State, the James B. Beam Institute at the University of Kentucky, and the Kentucky Distillers Association.

KPPC's 2024-25 Impact: Assistance Services

KPPC serves as an environmental sustainability resource center in Kentucky and provides technical assistance and training in the areas of pollution prevention, energy efficiency, renewable energy and sustainable manufacturing as part of its service mission. Assistance services are confidential, non-regulatory and provided at no cost to Kentucky business and industry.

KPPC engineers use a systematic approach to assist industrial, commercial and institutional clients as they develop and implement environmental management solutions. Through this approach, KPPC engineers have identified significant opportunities for energy and cost savings, along with the associated reductions in GHG emissions.

2024 KPPC Environment Sustainability Award

Each year, the Kentucky Pollution Prevention Center presents their Environmental Sustainability Award to those Kentucky companies and organizations that have demonstrated a commitment to the principles of sustainability, practicing environmental stewardship, and assisting others in doing so. KPPC created the award in 2009 and recognizes winners each year in conjunction with National Pollution Prevention Week. The memorial award is named for the late Douglas C.
