Research Opportunities

"Experience is the mother of science." -Traditional Proverb

Forging new pathways of discovery.

At the Price Institute of Surgical Research, researchers share an enthusiasm and commitment to:

  • Understand
  • Prevent
  • Better Management
  • Cure diseases affecting the surgical patient.

Collaborative Research

Through teamwork, we create an extraordinary synergy. Our researchers are encouraged to collaborate—both with investigators at the University of Louisville and other universities. Our longstanding collaboration with the Department of Physiology has been providing Price Research Fellows with the opportunity to earn doctorate degrees while conducting research at the Price Institute. The success of this decades-long relationship is exemplified in the paper Formal Degree Programs in Physiology Promote Careers of Clinical Scientists and Benefit Basic Science Departments, which highlights how structured, degree-awarding programs in physiology enhance the careers of clinical researchers while simultaneously benefiting basic science departments. This collaboration underscores our commitment to advancing both clinical and basic science through innovative educational opportunities.

National Presentations

Price Institute Fellows have presented their research findings at major conferences sponsored by:

  • American Association of Cancer Research
  • American Gastroenterological Association
  • American Surgical Association
  • Society of University Surgeons
  • Surgical Infection Society

Mentoring Careers

Because we foster the careers of  undergraduate, graduate, and medical school students, more than half of the summer undergraduate students whom we have mentored have gone on to medical school. As evidence, several of our recent students published "The Impact of Surgical Research on Career Success A Forty-Year Follow-up of Undergraduate Experiences" in Annals of Surgery, which is a survey of students who worked at the Price Institute.

We invite you to explore the many research opportunities offered at the Price Institute.
