Abolition Feminism and Anti-Racist Praxis, with Dr. Beth Richie 

On November 13-14, 2025, the Anne Braden Institute for Social Justice Research at the University of Louisville will welcome Dr. Beth Richie as the speaker for our 19th Annual Anne Braden Memorial Lecture.  

The annual lecture will take place on Thursday Nov. 13, 2025, from 6:00-7:30 PM in Middleton Auditorium, Strickler Hall. Free parking will be available from 5:30 PM in the North Lot (enter from the North Entrance on Cardinal Boulevard, take a right at the stop sign, then enter the lot between the Business School and the School of Music).  

The Research Meets Activism Breakfast will take place the following morning, on Friday Nov. 14, 2025, from 9:00-11:00 AM at the UofL Portland Building, Center for Archaeology and Cultural Heritage (1606 Rowan St.). At this event, Dr. Richie will be in conversation with local scholars and organizers. Free lot and street parking are available adjacent to site. 

About Dr. Beth Richie  

Dr. Richie’s extensive research examines how race and gender impact experiences of criminalization and justice, and she has long collaborated closely with communities, impacted individuals, and movements, including as a founding member of INCITE!: Women of Color Against Violence. She is the Presidential Humanities and Social Science Chair, and a Distinguished Professor of Criminology, Law, and Justice; Black Studies; and Gender and Women’s Studies in the College of Liberal Arts and Sciences at the University of Illinois at Chicago. Dr. Richie is author of “Arrested Justice: Black Women, Violence, and America’s Prison Nation”; co-editor with teachers from Stateville Prison of “The Long Term: Resisting Life Sentences, Working Toward Freedom”; and co-author with Angela Y.
