WHAS11: Rubbertown residents voice concerns over Kentucky's new hyperscale data center

January 19, 2026

LOUISVILLE, Ky. — Kentucky's first hyperscale data center is under construction on Campground Road, on 157 acres near Rubbertown.

The Data Center Map, a resource launched in 2007, used by buyers and sellers of data center services, shows that Kentucky has over 37 data centers, with 24 of those in Louisville alone.

Smaller data centers across the city provide IT infrastructure and data storage for sectors like healthcare and retail, but they can’t match the scale of the massive facility already planned near Rubbertown.

"I live in Rubbertown, and we already have a whole host of problems," said one concerned resident during a virtual meeting held by the West Jefferson County Community Task Force (WJCCTF) Tuesday night to address concerns over the new center.

"People care very deeply about how the presence of data centers in their communities will not only affect their lives but also the lives of their children," said Dr. Natasha DeJarnett, Assistant Professor in the Christina Lee Brown Envirome Institute at the University of Louisville.
