Long Nguyen receives NSF EPSCoR Research Fellows Award
August 26, 2026Congratulations to Long Nguyen on receiving a prestigious National Science Foundation (NSF) EPSCoR Research Fellows Award! Nguyen received $299,676 in NSF funding for his project, “Building a Large Predictive Model for Severe Flooding Events.” In collaboration with Oak Ridge National Laboratory, the project will use artificial intelligence foundation models and flood-related data to improve flood prediction, situational awareness and emergency response decision-making. The research has particular relevance to Kentucky communities and has the potential to help reduce the human and economic impacts of severe flooding while providing valuable graduate student training and strengthening research collaborations.
