Melissa Smith and Corey Watson advance precision medicine through Clareo Biosciences

Melissa Smith, associate professor in the UofL School of Medicine and CIEHS member, is helping advance personalized medicine through Clareo Biosciences, a Louisville-based biomedical startup she co-founded with Corey Watson. The company uses DNA sequencing and immunogenomic profiling to better understand connections between genetics and immune response, with applications including identifying susceptibility to side effects in clinical trials and improving organ transplant donor matching. Clareo Biosciences received support from UofL’s LaunchIt program and the NIH-funded KYNETIC program to translate its research into a commercial immune profiling product.
