UofL scientists unlock gut-healing power of fruits and nuts paired with the right gut microbes

A recent study led by the Jala Lab found that a microbial metabolite from foods such as pomegranates, walnuts and berries may help protect the gut and inform future inflammatory bowel disease (IBD) treatments. Published in Nature Communications, the study shows urolithin A activates a protective cellular pathway in intestinal cells that strengthens the gut barrier and supports tissue repair.
