McConnell Scholar performs at Macy's Thanksgiving Day Parade
April 7, 2026Melissa Moore, a 2014 McConnell Scholar from Louisville, spent her Thanksgiving holiday in New York City, joining her high school marching band for the 84th Macy's Thanksgiving Day Parade.
Moore, who was a drum major and piccolo player for four years at Eastern High School, said the band spent two years preparing for the 2.5-mile parade and a 90-second spot on national television.
The band played jazz versions of "My Favorite Things" and "My Old Kentucky Home." The group was the only one from Kentucky represented at this year's parade and only the second Jefferson County group performance to date, Moore said.
