Waters named 2012 McConnell Center debate champ
April 7, 2026Sophomore Meghan Waters beat junior Ben Weyman in the championship round.
Meghan Waters, of Campbell County, is the 2012 McConnell Center Debate Champion. Waters edged out junior Ben Weyman, also of Campbell County, in the final round. The pair debated whether newly-formed countries should support a common law or civil law system.
Eight McConnell Scholars participated in the debate society this year, meeting biweekly to debate issues ranging from social media and in-state tuition to climate change and hybrid cars.
Debate judges were Julie Bunck, PhD, Jason Gainous, PhD, and Allison Martens, PhD.
