Spectrum News13: Greenprint: A new approach to revitalize downtown Louisville
January 19, 2026The Greenprint initiative aims to transform downtown Louisville into a healthier, greener and more resilient urban core.
Mayor Craig Greenberg, D-Louisville, said investments into the heart of the city remain one of his top priorities.
“Bringing us all together through the Greenprint is going to make downtown a stronger, safer and definitely a healthier place for all of us to be,” Greenberg said.
Aruni Bhatnagar, director of the University of Louisville's Christina Lee Brown Envirome Institute, said it's not all about the aesthetics but making Louisville a healthier place to be.
“People who are around green parks and green spaces are healthier," Bhatnagar said. "They have lower risk of cardiovascular disease, lower risk of diabetes. They report better mental health; even suicide rates are lower. Even crime rates are lower in areas that are more green and well-kept. We have always realized the value of greenness in a civic public policy area as well as in our personal health."
