The Academy 

Trainees within the Center for Cardiometabolic Science take advantage of a developmental program named The Academy, which is a separate focus group in which CCS faculty convene with the Center’s PhD students and fellows to develop their professional skills. Mainstays of The Academy include: 

  1. Grant review and manuscript review
  2. Mock study section events that provide trainees with the opportunity to understand how grants are reviewed
  3. Philosophical topics such as logic and weighing evidence
  4. Practical topics including budgeting, personnel management, and professional communications 

Trainee accomplishments include the acquisition of fellowships, peer-reviewed publications and presentations at scientific meetings.
