The main scientific themes of the Center are Metabolism, Inflammation, and Fibrosis. Multiple laboratories collaboratively discover fundamental insights through these lenses.
Metabolism
Metabolism is foundational for life. The Center addresses how nutrition can be used as building blocks to sustain organ structure and how derangements in metabolism impair function.
Inflammation
Immune responses allow the body to respond to acute and chronic changes. The Center investigates innovative, mechanistic aspects of inflammation in health and disease.
Fibrosis
In response to injury, most organs undergo a degree of fibrosis. The heart is conspicuous in its propensity to form scar (fibrotic) tissue and lead to heart failure.
