The SPI Entrance Exam
All AOC applicants are required to complete the Reading Accuplacer exam through UofL Testing Services. The exam costs $35 and is available in two formats: in-person at UofL Testing Services or virtually via Zoom. Both options are available Monday–Thursday, 8 a.m.–4 p.m.

Choose your testing format
- In-Person: Report to UofL Testing Services during office hours. This option is available to local candidates.
- Virtual (Zoom): Take the exam online from home or any quiet office environment. You'll need a webcam and microphone. If you can't find a convenient date or time for a virtual exam, contact Testing Services at 502-852-6606 to schedule an appointment.

Register for the exam
Visit UofL Testing Services and select "Schedule Exam Here" to begin registration. When prompted, select the following:
- Group: "Southern Police Institute Exam"
- Exam: Choose the testing format (in-person or virtual) that works for you

Pay the testing fee
The $35 exam fee must be paid at the time of registration by debit or credit card. Fees are non-refundable, so please confirm you are registering for the correct testing format before completing payment.

Receive your score
After completing the exam, you will receive your score. SPI requires a minimum score of 250 on the Reading Accuplacer. If your score is below 250, SPI will contact you directly.
GI Bill Benefits May Apply
If you or your officer have served in the U.S. military, GI Bill funding may help offset the cost of attending the Administrative Officers Course. UofL's VA Education Benefits office can help you determine eligibility and walk you through the application process.
