Trauma-Informed FlourishCare Internship Program

The Trauma-Informed FlourishCare Internship Program is a unique opportunity for students in social work, family therapy, and nursing to receive specialized training in trauma-informed behavioral healthcare. This one-year internship prepares students to support adults with trauma-related behavioral health challenges, with a particular focus on rural communities in Kentucky. Through this program, students gain valuable, hands-on experience working with people from different backgrounds, while building a strong foundation in trauma-informed care.

Program Eligibility & Requirements

To apply, students must meet the following qualifications:

  • Enrollment in one of these accredited programs:

    • Bachelor’s in Social Work
    • Master’s in Social Work
    • Doctorate in Social Work
    • Foundation and Advanced Couple and Family Therapy (UofL only)
    • Advanced Year DNP-Psychiatric Nursing (UofL only)
  • Additional Requirements:

    • Willingness to travel to designated internship sites in rural Kentucky.
    • Commitment to applying trauma-informed care in behavioral health post-graduation.
    • Strong interest in serving adults across the lifespan.

Program Benefits

The FlourishCare Internship provides a range of benefits to support your professional journey:

  • Funding Opportunities:

    Competitive stipends are available to help support students:

    • $10,000 – UofL MSSW (advanced year only) & UofL Couple and Family Therapy (advanced year only) - limited.
    • $25,000 – UofL Doctorate in Social Work.
    • $28,000 – UofL DNP-Psych only.
    • Additional scholarship opportunities may be available based on program qualifications.

      Please note that employment at the University of Louisville or other qualifying factors may impact stipend eligibility.

  • Professional Development:

    Gain interprofessional training in trauma-informed behavioral health, earning the FlourishCare Professional Certificate upon completion. Benefit from specialized career development support and job placement resources.
     

  • Impactful Work:

    Improve lives through a trauma-informed integrated behavioral health-primary care model that addresses both the emotional and physical well-being of adults in Kentucky.
