What is the Optimal Aging Scholar Program?

The Optimal Aging Scholar Program prepares students and professionals to promote the health and well-being of older adults through education, research and community engagement.

Scholars participate in specialized learning opportunities focused on age-friendly care, innovation in aging services and interdisciplinary collaboration. Through this program, they gain valuable experience working alongside experts and community partners to promote optimal aging. 

Program Requirements

Complete online modules

Scholars will complete a number of online modules in the FlourishCare learning management system. Topics include age-friendly health systems, advance care planning, communication, cultural humility, compassionate care, polypharmacy and more.

Attend an Interprofessional Case Management Experience (ICME) session

The FlourishCare Interprofessional Case Management Experience (ICME) brings together learners, from multiple disciplines, to learn about caring for older adults.

Attend a Project ECHO session

Project ECHO: Care of Older Adults provides health care and community professionals with critical knowledge, skills and resources to improve care for older adults.

Attend IMPACT-4M (Interprofessional Model for Practice, Age-Friendly Care and Teamwork)

IMPACT-4M is a collaborative learning experience designed to enhance clinical skills and foster teamwork among emerging healthcare professionals. This interprofessional model brings together learners and professionals from various disciplines to engage in hands-on training, case-based discussions, and reflective practice.

Present or complete a poster presentation for Optimal Aging Conference

Optimal Aging Scholars will be invited to participate in a panel discussion or collaborate in small groups to develop a scholarly poster presentation.
