The Commission on Accreditation of Rehabilitation Facilities (CARF) recognizes the Trager Institute for excellence in mental health care for older adults.

Mental health services provided to adults and older adults by the University of Louisville Trager Institute Republic Bank Foundation Optimal Aging Clinic have been recognized for excellence in care by the Commission on Accreditation of Rehabilitation Facilities (CARF).

This marks the second consecutive three-year accreditation from CARF the institute’s behavioral health clinic has received for outpatient mental health treatment. Behavioral health services are provided as part of the clinic’s comprehensive care to help individuals maintain health as they age.

Programs and services that are CARF-accredited have demonstrated their conformance to internationally recognized standards for service delivery and their commitment to continuous quality improvement and a consumer-driven focus. CARF International is an independent, nonprofit accreditor of health and human services providers in the areas of aging services, behavioral health, child and youth services and many other similar services.

“CARF behavioral health accreditation is important to us because it ensures that our clinical practices, documentation and care coordination meet rigorous national standards,” said Joe D’Ambrosio, the Trager Institute’s director of behavioral health. “The process pushes us to continually examine how we deliver care and strengthens the systems that support our patients. Ultimately, it helps ensure that patients receiving services at Trager experience thoughtful, coordinated and high-quality care.”

The surveyors recognized the strength of the Trager clinical team’s ability to connect with patients, the institute’s commitment to understanding the social determinants of health, its innovative and highly integrated approach to personalized care planning through the FlourishCare Model and the FlourishCare Index, as well as the use of student interns and telehealth, increasing the accessibility of services.
